On the Transient, Busy and Idle Period Analysis of Statistical Multiplexers with N Input Links and Train Arrivals

چکیده
In this paper, we present an exact transient (discrete-time) queuing analysis of a statistical multiplexer with a finite number of input links and whose arrival process is correlated and consists of a train of a fixed number of fixed-length packets. The functional equation describing this queuing model is manipulated and transformed into a mathematical tractable form. This allows us to derive the transient probability generating function (pgf) of the buffer occupancy. From this transient pgf, time-dependent performance measures such as transient probability of empty buffer, transient mean of buffer occupancy and instantaneous packet overflow probabilities can be derived. The transient analysis provides useful insights into the derivation of the busy period distribution function, which will be illustrated for the simpler GI/D/1 case. We also present closed-form expressions for the idle period distribution of the queuing model under consideration. The paper presents significant new results on the transient and busy-period analysis of statistical multiplexers with N input links and train arrivals. متن کاملWorking Vacation Queue with Second Optional Service and Unreliable Server
An M/M/1 queueing system with second optional service and unreliable server is studied. We consider that the server works at different rate rather than being idle during the vacation period. The customers arrive to the system according to Poisson process with state dependent rates depending upon the server’s status. All customers demand the first essential service whereas only some of them dema...
متن کاملPerformance of Statistical Multiplexers with Finite Number of Inputs and Train Arrivals
The subject of this paper is the analysis of a discrete-time queueing model with infinite capacity, a single server serving exactly one packet per slot and with N input lines. On each of these input lines, there are messages arriving to the system that consist of exactly m packets. The important feature of this model however, is the fact that the packets of a message do not all enter the system...
متن کاملSome Inequalities for Single Server Queues
The expected wait in the Gi/G/1 queue is related to the mean and variance of the idle time. For arrival distributions which are 1FR or have mean residual life bounded by r-, simple bounds are obtained which A. give, for example, the expected number in queue to within at most one customer. By equating input with output, relations between random variables are used to obtain expressions foi the mo...
متن کاملOn the Transient and Steady-State Analysis of a Special Single Server Queuing System with HOL Priority Scheduling
In this paper, we consider a special discrete-time queuing system with two head-of-line (HOL) priority queues and a mix of correlated and uncorrelated arrivals. The arrival process to the high priority queue is correlated and consists of a train of a fixed number of fixed-length packets, while the low priority traffic consists of batch arrivals that are independent and identically distributed f...
